What's Going on in the Neighborhood

DEVELOPMENTS AT DeSALES CORNER
As we head into another summer, so many good things are happening in East Walnut Hills! We have become one of the most sought after communities in the city, and the best is yet to come.

The streetscape on Woodburn is progressing rapidly as the brickwork has been completed except at the new plaza in front of the San Marco building. Delivery of the new street lights were delayed, but their installation should begin soon. Removal of the remaining wires and poles will be done over the next few months as building hookups are completed.

The new mural on the Schulhoff façade should begin on June 15th and be completed in two months. Although not finalized the mural should consist of eight sepia tone historic photographs of DeSales Corner including the DeSales bell (Big Joe), fire equipment from the old fire house, and the Cable Car line that went down Woodburn. Seven other panels will be of architectural details of surrounding buildings.

Business is good with the opening of Taco Casa, the expanding of Skyline, and Seny open for lunch and dinner outside on the Plaza.

Finally the old 5/3 bank at DeSales Corner, boarded up for over 30 years, has been sold and the new owner has begun restoration of this grand building. Stay tuned for further details.

Owl's Nest Park News - COME PLAY!!
The large play structure is open for business at Owls’ Nest Park. The Parks’ Department has completed their safety inspections and the grass has grown back so bring the kids to your neighborhood park for summer fun! The structure was built by volunteers under the guidance of the Park Board and KaBOOM!, a national non-profit with the mission of building playgrounds within walking distance of every child, and with the generous support of the Madieu Williams Foundation. A tot structure and swings will be added by mid-summer. A future phase of the project will bring new landscaping, benches, sidewalks from the main trail to the play areas and lighting to the playground. In other news, we are still waiting for a dirt donation in order to proceed with Phase I construction. We are hoping that we will be able to take advantage of construction projects occurring on the Xavier University campus this summer. Phase I of Owls’ Nest includes the fill at the north end of the park, vegetation removal, the construction of a new plaza on Fairfax Avenue, a new ball field, a new basketball court area, the addition of a turn-around and parking at the Pogue Avenue entrance and a new trail system on the north end of the park.

Interior designer expands business in East Walnut Hills
EAST WALNUT HILLS – Jan Karl Wolf, a longtime Cincinnati artist who creates and sells custom artwork to interior designers and others, has expanded his business.

Wolf, 62, owner of Jan Wolf Studio, says the expansion included relocating the studio to 3103 Woodburn Ave. after initially opening it in 1993 in O'Bryonville. He moved in August to a 1,300-square-foot studio in a newly renovated building originally built in 1870.

Wolf says the move to the building provides him with a better showroom. "The new building offers a more attractive display area for the finished product and improved conditions for works in progress," he says.
